About
I taught in a small community college that had a program that focused on computing, security and networking technology. The courses that I taught were basic programming courses, databases and simple webpage applications. The program focused on building practical skills and so the kinds of things that my courses centered on were programming skills that were practical in nature. Like other courses in this program, there was an emphasis on developing problem solving skills. The idea being that giving students foundational computer skills along with practice in problem solving would best serve the students for a future in a technology that changes very rapidly.
With my website, my intent is to share my ideas on practical programming. I will mainly focus on plain vanilla JavaScript. This is because so much of computer technology is accessible via webpages, and I feel that JavaScript is a good practical language to know if you want to understand about making simple webpage applications. There are many tutorials online that talk about using JavaScript libraries like React for making webpages. Therefore, I don’t feel much of a need to cover things like that. Instead, I hope to share ideas about using plain vanilla JavaScript as I feel knowing those things can make it easier to debug apps you might create with something like React. Along the way, I will share some debugging tips that you might find helpful if you are using JavaScript libraries (like React) or JavaScript frameworks (like Angular).

This site is new for me, and I know that there may be some things you might see that you think needs clarification or correction. You might also see how I have done something and want to let me know of what you think is a better way to do things. Since I am just doing this as a hobby in my retirement, I may not check my email more than once a week. Also, I may not respond to all emails, but I will at least read them. My purpose is to provide some pointers that may help out others, so I do appreciate things that you want to talk about that you think might help me with my purpose.
